Mammoth Site

We had one last stop
on our way out of SD.
The Mammoth Site!

It was one of our top fav places!

Really makes you ponder
what is underneath us!

The Mammoth Restaurant
didn't disappoint,
filling our bellies for our long trek home.

Ring that bell!!
Here's to a wonderful vacation!

A little Uno by flashlight,
finishing up our drive home.

Last Day in Custer

We were so lucky to find
this perfect spot for our family.
The boys took advantage of the beautiful fishing spot
 one last morning.

Then, we headed up to
Crazy Horse.
There was a family sharing their
customs and dances
and we visited the museum.
It is still a work in progress,
and we were a little disappointed to find
we couldn't get any closer than this on our own.
(you can take a bus to the top...we passed!)

The clouds once again moved in quickly,
so we went home to relax and play some cards
while we waited out the storm.

Then, in between clouds,
we fit in one last trip to the lake
where the boys took had some fun on a canoe and lake to themselves.

They ended up getting rained on,
so we found an amazing Mexican restaurant in town,
then came back to our cozy cabin.
The air turned VERY chilly with the rain,
too chilly for an outdoor fire!
We closed up the cabin
and made a fire in the inside fireplace!

a perfect, cozy, last evening.

Rapid City, Wall and The Badlands

On our drive through Rapid City,
we stopped at the Best Zoo!
Bear Country USA!!
There was a drive through portion,
as you can tell...
the Bears were pretty chill
and used to the company.

We weren't so relaxed....

Why Hello there!

There were also
deer, elk, wolves, big cats, and more!!

If you make it through the bears....
there is then a walk through portion.
That is where the big grizzly is!

And the adorable cubs.
We watched them play for a long time.
They were hilarious....
kind of reminded us of our 2 wrestling!

My lil' bears.....🤣

After that fun stop,
we continued down the highway into.....
NOTHING
for
MILES....
then sign after sign,
for Wall Drug, in Wall SD.
Seriously, a sign every mile for probably 45 miles....
how can you not stop?!

Home of the Jackalope....

We had some fun at the numerous shops!

Then, after a few more miles,
our destination!
Badlands National Park!!!

awww.....google memories!

Totally worth the drive!

There were many stops with scenic areas,
to look, hike and discover.

Hard to tell in this pic,
but I am leaning forward because there was a sheer drop off
right behind us! (he was fearless)

Not sure if we should attempt the hundreds of steps
to the top....

But we did, and it was worth it!

As we were nearing the end of the scenic loop,
the sun was setting and suddenly,
a full moon!!
Wow, these pics don't do the view justice,
but wow.

It was such an awesome site.

We stopped back in Wall
for a late night dinner
at an amazing restaurant "Red Rock"
to fill our bellies
for the long trek back to Custer.
It was a looong full day,
but worth every second.
