Custer

We were just a few miles from
Custer State Park.
What a beautiful spot!!
Time to fish one of the lakes!

Also had a great hiking trail that went all the way around the lake,
had some cool rock formations!

A storm brewed up,
so we packed up (no luck with catching dinner).
and headed into town.
We just got into our lunch spot
when the clouds let loose!
The Custer Wolf was the perfect hangout
for our afternoon,
great food, beer and we played a
very intense game of Sorry
while we waited out the storm.
It passed,
leaving cool air, sun
and a perfect afternoon to shop in the cute town.

Then back to hunt down some Buffalo.
We drove the "loop"
but only saw one lone guy!

So, yep!
Time for a fire and fun!
We loved the chill of the evenings,
sleeping with the windows open
was wonderful!

Thanks for a wonderful day Custer!

Deadwood.

Deadwood is such a fun little town!
We put in a full day of fun,
beginning at the free history museum.

There are so many rocks in the ground,
the trees learn to grow their roots through them.

There are many fun restaurants,
our pic included a live outdoor concert
by a look-a-like Willie,
with hits like
"gettin' old SUCKS!"
The boys thought he was hilarious!

We then went on a tour of the town.
Our guide was also the school principle.
We traveled up the mountain to a beautiful cemetery
where Wild Bill and Calamity Jane are buried.

Up next,
gold mining!

And their first tour in a mine.

brrrr...the cold air felt good!

No Deadwood visit is complete
without a good ole fashioned
Main Street shootout!

Then back home to our relaxing evening fire.

What a great day!

South Dakota Fun!!!

Where we stayed...

Historic Camp Custer log Cabins.
The former officer's quarters of the
Civilian Conservation Corps that housed men
during the 1930s great depression.
It is registered as a historic site and
is still decorated with many antiques.
Including a working phone
the boys have never used before....!!!

Our

The boys wasted no time
heading over to the fishing pond!!

We were able to sit comfortably
on the porch and watch them
in their element.

Trying out their fire starters!

Custer State Park
had a free fishing clinic,
first up on our list!

Not many bites, but what a relaxing
beautiful morning.

Time to head through the mountains....
on our way to Mt. Rushmore!

A beautiful, scenic drive
that included lots of fun hiking spots
on the way!

Who left him alone with the camera....?!?

Literally...
driving "through" the mountains....

We can see it!

We were so pleasantly surprised
with the total beauty in this area.

A great view for lunch!

How would you like that job?!?
They were scaling different areas.....
scary just to watch!

We were famished after our big day,
Sean offered up a special dessert!
Yummy!!

A great first day of vaca!
